Camus bracelet!

I made myself a Camus bracelet quite a while back using pages from a French copy of The Stranger. I never made more because I just didn’t see it being of much interest to the world at large. I know that many people share my love for Camus, but it just seemed like it might be sort of random and maybe even morbid when translated into jewelry.

But last week when I was looking at my stacks of damaged books, I kept going back to The Stranger (a copy in English this time, not French.)  I adore this book. It’s one of my very favorites and I just decided that it HAD to be added to our line of book jewelry!

So I decided to give it a try. I made a few Camus bracelets and brought them to the market yesterday. None of the people who noticed the bracelet recognized what book it was from. By the middle of the day I felt pretty sure that the bracelet was going to just sit around confusing people all day.

Just a bit before I started packing up for the day, the nicest lady came by our table and started chatting with me about our book jewelry. She started looking through everything carefully and stopped at the Camus bracelet. She asked what it was from and I explained that it was from an Albert Camus book, The Stranger. I also told her that I was pretty sure that there would be very little interest in Camus book jewelry, but that it was my favorite book so I just decided to make it and give it a try. She looked up and smiled, and said “I’m so glad you did, because this is the one I want.” She went on to tell me that she wrote a paper about this book and Camus in college and that it meant a lot to her.

It’s moments like this that make my day!

I love creating what I create so much and I am so grateful to be able to share it with strangers. Thanks to everyone who has supported or encouraged Chad and I in our itty bitty artsy adventure! There is really something extra special about creating something with your two hands that you know someone will treasure with theirs.

I’ve since added the Camus bracelet to our etsy shop and you can see it up close right here!
